Rooftop Bees acquires The Urban Beehive Beekeeping and Honey Operations Business

We are excited to announce that Rooftop Bees has acquired the beekeeping and honey operations of The Urban Beehive in Sydney. In doing so Rooftop Bees becomes Australia’s largest urban beekeeping business managing hives for more than 30 corporate partners in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Doug Purdie and Vicky Brown have pioneered urban beekeeping in Australia over the past decade and played a big role in the growth of recreational beekeeping. While Doug and Vicky both look forward to a well-deserved break, they will remain closely connected to bees and the industry.

“We are thrilled to continue the amazing business that Doug and Vicky have nurtured with such care and dedication. We are experiencing strong growth in all areas of our business and the addition of The Urban Beehive strengthens our position and sets us up nicely for further expansion into the future” says John Prince, Co-Founder and Director, Rooftop Bees.

Doug Purdie from The Urban Beehive says “We’re delighted to have Rooftop Bees take over the beekeeping and honey operations of The Urban Beehive. In a few short years, John, Renata and the team have developed a trusted business, a premium product and secured a large number of blue-chip corporate partners. We have sought out a buyer who really appreciates the business, understands how to operate it properly, and is keen and capable of developing its future potential.”

The Urban Beehive retail store in Matraville will continue to operate under The Urban Beehive brand.
